First game of session always hangs, disconnects and results in loss

For many days now, there is a really big problem with live chess that almost systematically makes me lose my first game of a session for no reason. After a couple (1 to 5) moves, the board and page hangs (timers are stopped and the browser tells me the page is hanging, asking to either wait or kill the page). Whatever I do, I usually end up refreshing the page to a "game abandonment" result, with me losing ELO for no reason. Couple of other facts :

  • I'm using wired Ethernet with a solid 120MBps connection. Not internet connectivity issue at all.
  • This seems to only happen on the first game. After I reconnect, all following games are fine.
  • I've been playing here since 2009 and this only started recently.
  • Since I mostly play bullet games nowadays, the timeout is way too short to save the game after a refresh.
  • I'm on an up-to-date clean Windows 10 machine, using Brave browser (Chromium/Blink engine)

How can I prevent this? It's truly not a good marketing strategy to force us to lose our first game due to your website's failure. I was considering to renew my diamond membership, but I won't do it until this is fixed, it's just too frustrating!

Restart your wifi network, that's what I did to fix that issue happy.png

I have this same exact problem. The first time i load the board it hands for about 5-10 seconds on the first game. It's very annoying and it can freeze while i'm holding a piece to make my first move.

The problem persists but I have somewhat of a workaround for those who have the same bug.

  1. In the menu, select "Play" (not the shortcut with time control, we don't want to start the game yet!)
  2. In the game select screen, alternate clicking on New Game and Games at least 20 times consecutively. This will inevitably make it hang.
  3. When it hangs, wait until it comes back to life (could be up to a minute)
  4. Try again step #2 to make sure you can do it without issue
  5. Click "Play" button to start your game without an automatic flag!

I wish Chess.com would provide a proper answer/fix to this!

I've had this issue for months now, too. Only the first game!

This has been going on for months but, is now much more severe. The issues is malware attached to my individual chess.com account which only chess.com can clear on their side. The server side. The trouble is where is there any contact for support ? I cant find any.
