Formal Request Regarding the Representation of Iran’s Flag

The flag currently displayed as the “flag of Iran” on Chess.com does not represent the Iranian people. It represents a ruling regime that, according to numerous independent international human rights organizations, is responsible for systematic repression, mass arrests, torture, and large-scale killings of its own citizens. During recent nationwide protests, tens of thousands of people were killed or detained within a very short period of time, as documented by human rights groups and UN-referenced reports. These events are not political opinions; they are recorded human rights violations. Continuing to display the official flag of the Islamic Republic as the national symbol of Iran is therefore not neutral. It contributes to the normalization and indirect legitimization of a regime that does not represent its people. For millions of Iranians, the Lion and Sun flag is a historical and cultural symbol of Iran—one that predates the current regime and stands above any political ideology. At minimum, the current regime’s flag should be removed; preferably, it should be replaced with this historical national symbol. This request does not violate Chess.com policies. Chess.com has already removed the Russian flag following the invasion of Ukraine and also removed the Belarusian flag due to its support of Russia. Citing “platform rules” to reject this request would therefore be inconsistent with Chess.com’s own precedent. If Chess.com considers itself a global platform committed to ethical responsibility and human values, it cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of the Iranian people. Failing to distance itself from this regime—by continuing to display its official symbol—makes the platform complicit, even indirectly, in the normalization of these crimes. This is not a partisan political demand. It is a human and ethical request: Stand with the people of Iran, not with those who oppress them.

I raised this forum in the community section a few hours ago, and one of the moderators quickly closed my discussion and said that this is a political discussion and against our rules!! How can you really be so far from humanity? I just said that you should stand with the Iranian people as you stood with the people of Ukraine, but you are even afraid to hear the truth!! If you close my forum again, everything proves that you are just hypocritical creatures playing with words
