Wow, it's not only that Live Chess can't be played in recent days, but now I'm unable to post in these forums as well! I mean from my Windows PC, using Opera or Firefox, I'm typing white font on white background and can't see anything! Everything was fine there yesterday. I'm typing this on the iPad, which has Chess.com bugs of its own, as I posted in another thread. :-(((

did you clear your ipad cache?

Hi Erik, this particular one isn't an iPad issue. There's white text on white background today in the edit windows in the forums in various browsers on Windows XP. Everything was OK the day before yesterday. (As to playing the game on the iPad, the situation got better within the last several hours. Hopefully it stays that way. And no, I didn't clear the cache on the iPad, but again, the issue is browser-independent and either occurs in all browsers or in none of them; I have 3 of them installed on the iPad and if the Live Chess board doesn't appear, it doesn't appear in any browser, but when it works smoothly, it works smoothly in all 3.)

what you have is a corrupted set of .css files in your browser somehow. we are not getting any widespread reports on this - it is your device only at this point (though we have had a handful of users in the past with this error, and a refresh of files worked for them). if it's across multiple browsers, then perhaps your firewall is blocking some key .js or .css files.

as for live chess, again, none of the same reports. but i'll try on my ipad tonight.

Well, black letters are back on Windows today, fortunately. Cool  Both in Opera and Firefox.

There are still the other iPad bugs that I don't believe are related to .css or .js files: Chess.com forcing the mobile site version onto the iPad, and specifically, after submitting a forum post on the iPad, all the paragraphs of a forum post get merged into a single, long paragraph.
