And my cursor still blinks. As far as I know they are going to remove the support of animated profile pictures for all users (paid and non-paid) so I don't know how "every good thing now costs money" relates to this topic
Support for animated avatars is being removed from the site. So, if you didn’t have one before, you won’t be able to add one. Existing ones will stop working in the near future.
