how does the points system work for games

Hi there. I've played three games against other players. I lost my first and lost points. I won my second by resignation and won points. I won my third by checkmate but didn't gain any points. Can someone tell me why and how to win points in a game.

Ok. Thank you. How do I know if my game is a rated game? I just chose an open challenge. Is there a way I can tell in future?

The icon on the graph for a game is gray if it is unrated. You can also change your filter so it won't show unrated games if you want.
