How many games does an account restriction last.

Here's the situation. I have not played in a long time so I wanted to play unrated. When I first hop on sometimes when I click play it will automatically save my custom unrated settings but sometimes it wouldn't and would throw me into a rated game. However being out of practice I didn't want to play rated so I would abort reset the settings and play. a few days back I messed up setting up my unrated games like 3-5 times in one day and got my account restricted. Now I can ONLY play rated and I was just wondering how long that lasts? Should I just give up? I really don't feel like playing rated as its only going to frustrate me because I know I'm playing subpar right now. Really brutal reintroduction to chess if I'm being honest.

Hmm.  I have never heard that anyone is forced to play rated games.

What seems more likely is that you aborted too many games and you are simply not allowed to abort any more games until you have played a certain number through to a successful completion.

The restriction only allows you to play normal 30min rated games (default settings) or play with friends and I don't really have any friend that play to invite.

This is not the case I can not load up an unrated game, I can only play rated.  this is the restriction below. As you can  see it says you can challenge friends or create rated open challenges I just want to know for how long I've put in probably 10 rated games so far and am still restricted

Aborting games too frequently results in a sportsmanship restriction:

Sportsmanship Policy

Chess.com encourages players to be kind and show good sportsmanship. Our Sportsmanship policy expects that players will not...

  • intentionally disconnect during games
  • stall to make opponents wait unnecessarily
  • frivolously abort games because they don't want to play black, etc. (Note that we have now implemented a limit on the frequency with which users may abort games; please Abort only when necessary. Also see below.)

If your account is flagged for habitually breaking this policy, your play will be restricted, requiring you to wait 5 minutes between games (including aborted games).

Please note, our Fair Play Policy also prohibits use of outside assistance (including engines, tablebases, other players, etc.) which you can read up about here.

Tips to Avoid Aborting Games!

Aborting games too often will temporarily suspend your ability to abort games. This means that if you cannot play, you will have no choice but to resign (or risk further sanctions described above, by abandoning your game or disconnecting). If you have to abort, then do so of course, but whenever possible, use the features available to minimize your need to abort chess games!

Do not Abort games if your opponent will not move at the beginning of a game: The server will do it for you!

On his or her turn, each player has 15-20 seconds to make their first move. If this does not happen, the game will be automatically aborted. This has a negative effect on the Fair-Play record of the player failing to move. (But if you hit Abort, it affects your record! It's best to be patient for a few seconds.)

Do not Abort games to find preferred opponents: Restrict your challenges and/or filter the Seek graph instead!

Don't just hit Start Game and hope for the best! If you are not willing to play just anybody, go to your Live Chess settings, and look for your incoming and outgoing ranges: file-DuodE9ucyJ.png

Here you can configure your challenge to get a game you will really want to play.

Use the drop-down menus to choose a range that's relative to your own current rating for the relevant game type. In the image above, the player is seeking opponents whose rating is not more than 150 points lower, or 150 points higher, than her own current rating. If she were rated 1400 in Blitz, her Blitz challenges would seek opponents from 1250-1550.

And if you're willing to play unrated games, you can even pick the color you want to play.

/  I never heard that there is a specific number of games required to get the restriction lifted.  Just don't abort any more games.

i understand that thanks, I was newer to the site and wasnt paying enough attention. quite frankly i thought the abort was made for situations just like that now I know its a useless button not to be touched.

Not a useless button, in some cases we start a game and then want to attend to something, using the abort button is useful then. But in cases where people simply abort too many games in order to get lower rated opponents or for some other reason can lead to restriction.

If you cant even use it 3 times cause you set up some games wrong when you haven't used the site in years with out getting a restriction... seems pretty useless.

I also got that restriction. I couldn’t play tournaments though instead of not being able to play unrated due to a boarding too many games because I didn’t wanna play black. I wanted to play white. I knew an opening for white which I wanted to play. And I know no openings for black black
