How sides selected in "Start New Game"?

On the "My Online Chess" page, there is a box on the right hand side which allows you to put out a request for an open game. It has "Time Per Move" and "Opponent Rating: (optional)" on it. Are the sides (e.g. black/white) randomly selected? I know there are more detailed ways of starting a game in other places on the site, but wanted to know if colors were chosen at random here. Thanks!
