Which chat window are you referring to? You can click and drag certain invisible boarders of chat dialogue boxes to adjust their size.

I was having the same problem. I didn't know there were invisible borders. If they're invisible then how are we supposed to know they exist?
I suppose I should qualify, they are uncovered when your pointer hovers over them.
