how to start

Hi there, I am a newcomer, my name is Mary Hionidou and I used to play chess with my grandma almost half a century ago.  Now that I am a grandma, I would like to start it again - mind you my dad was the top Greek man (grandmaster I think was the term) for about a decade.  Is there any greek person with whom I could start off playing??

Thanks

Mary

Thanks a lot kohai.  I still don't know how to start playing.  I hope someone will ask me to play with him/her.  Keep my fingers crossed.

From your homepage, on the right side menu “Control Panel”, click where it says “Online Games”. This opens the games page where all of your current games will be shown as you have them, any challenges you have made and/or received, and your recent games history. On the right side menu, click where it says “Start New Game”. In this page you have the options and extra options to;

  • Send a game to someone you know, or create a random game that anyone can accept.
  • Select time length of the game
  • Opt to have the standard starting position or use one from the drop down menu
  • Choose whether to play as white or black
  • Choose whether the game is rated, unrated or a take back game
  • You can choose to play someone who has already completed a certain number of games in online chess, and limit by how many games they have timed out on
  • How fast or slow you want the game to be using the “Player move speed”
  • Restrict your games so only premium members can accept
  • Automatically start my game if similar seek is found.

If you don’t want to start a new game yourself, from your online games page you can click where it says “Open Seeks”. This page shows the challenges created by other members including

“Opponent Rating” whether you play as black or white, and the time length of the game. To accept a game, click on the right side where it says “View”. When the game opens, you can then choose to “Accept” or click “No Thanks”.
