I want to report a member

i am currently in a game with <Name Removed> and it is apparent that this guy just creates games with a 99 minute clock and then doesn't play in hopes that you'll resign and his rating with go up a few points.

if you look at his live chess, all of his games are 99 minutes and usually around 10 moves. i wish to report this man for misconduct and/or site abuse. DO NOT PLAY HIM.

Totally understand.  This is a very cheap tactict of winning played by sore losers.

In my opinion it is best to not play anymore than 30 min games.  So if need be you can paitiently wait out your hard earned win.  Some times i think to give people "the benefit of the doubt" is maybe they are playing a game at work and  they just got side tracked with their work obligations.  Which is somewhat understandable,  If you want to play a long game where deep consentration is involved per move, then maybe try the 3 day per move games.  I personally usually only really spend about 2 to 5 min. per move on a 3 day game, and usually have a large number of these games going on at once.  So if one person gets to busy to respond or they want to give up 3 days is not a long time to wait since you lots of other games going on at the same time.  Try an online game instead of a long live game you might enjoy it more.

at the time i played this game it was the only live one that wasn't much higher rated than me. also i waited and the guy eventually abandoned, so i claimed the win.

the point is, that's all of this member's live games. ignoring a problem won't make it go away. there's nothing wrong with playing a long game, just as long as you actually play it.

Responses from staff about sportsmanship issues.

1 - Post # 15 from dpruess  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/suggestions/for-the-love-of-god-do-something-about-timeout-abuse

"we are planning to institute sportsmanship feedback soon."

2 - Post # 6 from erik  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/losers-that-stop-playing-when-they-see-they-are-losing

"punishment for this is coming soon. we track it now, but soon these kinds of abusers will be limited in their ability to accept game seeks, etc."

It has been planned for a long time it may still look like this  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/rating-opponent-sportsmanship  or it may have morphed into something else.

Its a shame to hear that 99 minute games are timed-out. There should be a time control setting that forces n moves with x amount of time.

Avatar of electricpawn

This is unfortunate. I would legitimately like to play longer time controls.

If I remember correctly, just recently Erik posted something to the effect that some measures are in the works to deal with such situations as this . . .just to let you know there's a possible rainbow at the end of the storm.

Overtime, ratings figure out where you really are in terms of your own capability, so an occasional loss due to resignation in a game such as this is inconsequential. Just resign and move on. And in the end, unless you're in this game for money (and if you're playing here on-line I can't see that) then you're rating, posted for all to see, is just for you. It doesn't decrease or increase your ability to enjoy the game for the game's sake. Just have fun and don't let imbeciles ruin your enjoyment of the game. That's GAME as in it's a game.

This forum is pretty weird. First of all, we can't tell who you are talking about if you use "Name Removed". If you play him just time him out. Who in the world are you reporting?! Just say the username!

Answer: misconduct and site abuse.

Does anyone converse with their opponent before the games? If I was going to commit to game that was near three hours if each side uses their clock, I would at least try and get to know my opponent a little. At least if you do not feel like talking with this person, one could look at the opponents profile and game history to see what is up. Both parties are at fault, so please stop wasting forum space whining about 'cheaters'. Either get some common sense or learn the proper channels for reporting 'abuse'.

Yes. It would be a fitting name if you got your name removed
