in your opinion should this game be adjudicated?

its bad etiquette, the old boy should resign, given the number of games in progress on the site adjudication would be overly bureaucratic, best if members behave well

EO, if the guy is dragging the game do a few things that might help him decide it isnt worth the public humiliation to delay any further.  1) Post the game and make sure everyone on earth sees his name and is aware of his slow play.  2)  Queen every pawn you can...then post the game again and make sure everyone can see how badly you spanked him.  3) Call his mommy.  4) Quit complaining...you agreed to a long game, and sometimes long games take, well a long time.  5) Just make sure you dont play him again.  Sorry EO I understand that it can be frustrating, but not a lot you can do...just dont reward him by resigning or drawing with him as a compromise.

I found a copy of the incriminating message he sent me in my "sent items" outbox. By the way, his house was not being painted. His roof was being fixed...

He's on vacation again.

I guess I'll just give him what he wants and resign.

It's not like I could have possibly won the game. Maybe a draw if I had tried really hard...

Why not just wait?  Its not like its a major investment of your time to check on a game.

Because I want to finish my online games at some point and take a break. I don't want to feel enslaved to this site.

I just dont understand all the posts whining about people taking the maximum amount of time they are allowed to take.  Erik has fixed the vacation issue, so now if long games bother people then simply dont play them.  Stick with 1-3 day games, and issue is resolved.

Yes. The problem is that you, mr. OPer has a problem with this guy following the pre-arranged rules for the match/tourney that you're involved with.   If you abhor the idea of having to grind out an ending like this the only answer to is to play games with shorter time controls.   It's really very simple.

But, you know what, it doesn't matter what the time control is that you're playing because everyone of comes across players all of the time to "run out the clock".  In a blitz game or something, it can be annoying but who cares since the game will be over in a few moments in any case.   If you want to play this kind of game with days between moves allowed, then THIS THE PRICE THAT YOU PAY FOR INDULGING YOURSELF IN THIS WAY.   So, suck it up, enjoy the other games you've got going on and teach this wimp a lesson by beating him fair and square.

It might not bother him.  Not everyone gets their panties all scrunched up because of a slow opponent.

In the prehistoric days, dragging on a correspondence game literally cost the players. The cost in postage limited this sort of tactic.

There also were adjudication boards for some tournaments. Perhaps creating adjudication boards wouldn't be such a bad idea for this site?  Once a game is submitted for adjudication, the game is finished and any decision by the adjudication board would be final.

The way it used to work, the players had to submit their analysis as part of the adjudication. The board had to determine the threshhold for winning versus drawing.

Is this an ideas whose time has come again?

I'm not sure as it takes some time/effort to do the adjudication, therefore it cost something.

But, if several high rated members would volunteer for such a job, then why not. Wink

Good old boy is going to win this one now that I am gone. His immorality paid of.
