interface freezing. can't move

that's not uncommon... and in many cases it appears you are waiting for your opponent to move, but in fact your own clock is running...
Again, if you read my post, it was freezing on my Mac with my account, and immediately after I switched to my son's paid account behaved normally within 5+ games. Nothing to do with any Windows, browsers, or cache.

Mac users also suffer problems, as do premium members...
BTW, you shouldn't be playing on anyone else's account
Dear gambit-man your answer has 0 (zero) information and the same amount of help. What is the point of your post? My point was that I see the immediate and obvious difference between free and paid account on the same laptop. Could anyone comment on that?

i already did... to save you from reading it closer, PC users suffer the problems too. It's not a problem associated to using a PC or Mac.
Premium account holders also suffer the same problems. Until today i was a premium member. Having a premium account is not going to solve your problem either.
In short, the problem is not at your end...
And just in case, playing on someone else's account is against site rules. See https://www.chess.com/legal
But i'm sorry i can't fix your problem for you, i'd have fixed it for myself long ago if i could have
How do you then explain the fact that the problem immediately fixed itself by switching from free to a premium account on the same laptop?

luck... quite simply...
continue to play on that account for long enough, if you don't get both yours and your son's accounts closed first you'll soon run into the same problems.
Some months ago it was discovered that some users were seeing adverts of 60Mb on the page, swallowing their bandwidth. See https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/runaway-download-on-chess-com-main-page
According to staff that problem has since been fixed, but many who complained of the slow speeds at that time were premium members, adverts shouldn't have been getting in their way at all.
There were later suggestions that adblockers might be causing some problems too, but after whitelisting the site in my adblocker (the only extension running in my chrome browser) i still suffered the same problems.
Believe me, i've tried absolutely everything i can at my end to try resolving the issues, nothing works. I use a corded mouse, and ethernet cord to my modem. mess around with all sorts of settings. I have a 100+mbps internet connection, but sometimes i have to put up with dial up speeds of 15 years ago.
I'm not very tech savvy, but there are many users who are, and some of those identified that the code used in v3 is much heavier than in v2. Staff have said it's a bit heavier, but shouldn't make a great difference. In the absence of any other reasons to cause the problems, i can only surmise that v3 is the problem...

having said all that above, i received a reminder this morning about upgrading membership... amongst other things it said this, emphasis is mine...
"Improve your game with Videos, Lessons, and Tactics!
No Ads! = faster page loading & better site performance!
All of other features listed in the table below!"
However, i have not noticed any change in speed since my membership lapsed, although my adblocker no longer whitelists this site...
For the posterity: I have upgraded the membership to gold and freezing is gone right away. As they say, there is no free lunch, indeed

well, if it works for you, then good...
Not possible to play anymore - freezing every (at best) second game. It should be mentioned clearly that only option remains is to pay (but the fact of seeing how it works makes me scary to invest even 1$.
The evidence that this problem has anything to do with being a paid subscription is very weak: a couple of observations of a highly intermittent problem, with all sorts of variables uncontrolled.
In fact, have not had the freezing problem for several days now, maybe 10 days. However I did notice another, new UI bug (minor) that never occurred before. I imagine a new version of the code has been rolled out, and you can start guessing what the problem is and what you think causes it all over again.
I suppose we ought to be grateful that chess.com exists at all, but i have to say the whole UI effort just seems unprofessional. To make just one point, don't they have *any* Q/A process?

That is the nail hit squarely on the head.
Well, you are right I just made make guess about needing to pay moneys based on others' comments. I agree that the idea of the website for so many people is great - yet I cant play since my last message and whatever I do I dropped more than 100 points below my normal level just because of that bug. :-(
Hi vichess, I sympathize. I've been playing a lot, every day, and haven't had that freezing problem for at least 2 or 3 weeks, not even once. I didn't change anything. But's still happening for you. Conclusion: nobody but the software developer has enough info to tell what the cause is, we might as well stop guessing. But I think it's useful to hear from folks who do or don't still have that problem. For myself I would like to subscribe to get some of the paid features but every time I"m about to to that I remember this freezing issue and get irritated and don't.
Somebody who is still having the problem regularly should toss their cookies and see if that has any effect, temporary or otherwise.
i was told if you didn't have windows 10, that's probably the problem.
by a staff member?
