Hi,

I have an I-phone ( the early version, dont know the name) the app has always worked perfectly but today I loaded the update and now it no longer works.I un-installed and re-installed it but no joy.

I would appreciate it if you could let me know if there is anything I can do.

Where you say 'it no longer works' ..

Can you explain in more detail what exactly happens when you tap on the app to open it?  What happens from there? What issues are you experiencing?

Have you tried completely turning off the phone and turning it back on again as the un-install/re-install didn't help?

When you re-installed the app, did you sync it with iTunes?

Thanks for the quick reply, when I tap the app it just doesnt connect or try, it just goes back to my apps. I will try syncing it now and get back to you.

Hi again,

I have synced the phone, uninstalled and reinstalled in i-tunes, switched phone on and off but no joy, nothing happens when the app is tapped.

What connection is your phone on?

I downloaded the latest iPhone app and its working for me, so I need to now find out why its not working for  you.

Sirness is not the only one for who the app is no longer working. I have the feeling it has something to do with the iOS version. My ipod also crashes the new app, on iOS 3.1.3 (no newer version can run on it), and I believe the first iphone also uses 3.1.3.

I just downloaded the app to my pc but it hasn't synced with the phone this time. I am not very computor savvy. It just worked until the latest update. I will just use my pc. Thanks anyway.

To make the app better, we need to get the crash report from you. You can do this by going to the "Settings" page in the iPhone app. From there you will see a "Send Data to Tech Support". That will email us with the details of the position when you crash.

After sending that email, you should then return to the app settings and click on "Reset Game vs. Computer". Then you can start a new game against the computer in a non-crashing position.


Finally, if you are having a non-computer-related crash, follow the instructions here:

Step 1:
Sync your device with your computer.


Step 2:
Find your crash log here:

- If Mac OS X : ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/


- If Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Apple
computer\Logs\CrashReporter\


- If Windows Vista: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Apple
computer\Logs\CrashReporter/MobileDevice\


Your crash report will look like this:
Chess_2009-10-29-071531_Phone_Name.crash


Step 3:
Email your crash report to: iphone@chess.com


In your e-mail, please include your chess.com username, and  let us know what you were doing (or trying to do) when it crashed. Also, Please let us know what device you have, and if you know, what your firmware version is.

We think we've got it figured out, guys. Is there anyone having this problem who is NOT on a version of iOS 3?

Also... If you're running an older iOS and you'd like to test the fix (and/or be a ongoing beta tester), please install "ShareAbout" (a free utility in the App Store) on the relevant device, and use it to email me your device information at "deepgreene@chess.com".

We could definitely use more testers with the older hardware and OSs.

I have just started getting a crash at launch with the latest update.  I'll see if I can get the crash logs and send them along.  I have the oldes iPhone (my wife bought it a month after it was announced long ago).

Yep, same problem; I also have the first generation i-pod touch (iOS3).
