Is anyone else suddenly missing their DM history?

For some DMs, where I and another member are having long serious discussions, I noticed that the old, but still relevant, DMs are gone!

So I checked, and most of the old DMs are gone for every recipient on my DM list!

It varies, how many messages are missing in each case.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, a lot of that was old and should have been deleted. But one time, when I tried to delete old messages, it deleted all of the messages between me and that person, and I was nervous about trying again.

Some of those messages, though, I really need back. I'm referring to the ones deleted today apparently by the system.

How can staff just delete our private discussions without warning us first that it's going to happen!

Staff don't delete messages but any account closed for TOS violations will get muted so all your messages with such members will no longer show and regular muted members will also have the conversations hidden until their mutes have expired.

This is affecting all of my DMs with everyone, including staff members. My past history just doesn't show past a certain point. It has nothing to do with mutes or bans.

I think the devs are playing around with "features" again, and a view limit that we can't control has been installed.

I don't have extremely long message histories with many members but I just tested on one and loaded messages from 2015. They don't load initially, but will in the background.
I'm not aware of any limits on loading old messages or of the site aging out old ones.

Well, it is happening for me. And I've spent 21/2 hours trying various ways to get this reported because Support no longer accepts emails, the bug report system doesn't work (do not say "clear your cache" at me, I'm retired IT), and I have trouble with my hands that causes me to take hours to type things that take normal people minutes. I simply can't go on. I would like the devekopers to know about this.

But there needs to be a reasonable expectation by Support and the devs regarding how much effort I am required to put in, to report something. It is now 02:22am where I am, and I should reasonably be allowed to quit typing things and be heard by them, get real-life things done, and get some sleep.

@Martin_Stahl: how did you manage to read what you called "the background" - I see no way of accessing anything but what I am shown.

PS - this has nothing to do with archiving, btw. I just played around with that to be sure.

What I mean is that when you first load a conversation, only the most recent messages load and the system will begin adding old messages in batches so you'll have to scroll up to see them as they load.

I'm already aware of that.

It's not doing it.

I have finally managed to break through to Support. We'll see if they can help.

That's not accurate

And it's not my problem. In some cases, things that were only a week old went missing.

Update: messages don't seem to be deleted. But I no longer have access to them because they don't load.
