I just want to ask everyone here, does this seem fair?
I joined a tournament and got paired with a much lower-rated player. I decided to withdraw, but I didn’t know there was no cancel or resign button during tournaments. While I was trying to figure it out, I didn’t make a move, and the system marked me as AFK. As a result, I lost the game.
The problem is, I had no idea how much rating I would lose, and suddenly I saw a 499 rating loss. That feels incredibly unfair. Especially considering that if I had won, I would have gained only around 12 points.
Does that sound reasonable to anyone?
I’m not obsessed with rating, but having a higher rating means getting matched with stronger players, and that’s important to me. That’s why I care about what happened. I just don’t think it’s right to lose so many points without even playing a single move.
