I've been blocked for violating fair play rules?

I can't open challenge anymore because i get a message saying i violated the "fair play rules". We're not allowed to abort games before they start? What the hell is that? I'm required to play against someone 200 or 300 points below me? Sigh...fine. Could a mod/admin restore my open challenge access please?

change your challenge settings so only people you want to play can accept your challenges. what i'm wondering is this: what if you get black and your opponent never makes a move so you abort, if that happens enough, will you get banned?

You can attempt to fix your access here.

http://www.chess.com/groups/view/fair-play-transgressor-rehabilitation-centre

Send a friend request to all members. Make sure your settings do not limit challenges.

Play your way back to the main pool. Adjust your settings to get opponents in the required range.

TadDude, thats 1 funny group haha, brilliant welcome message!

heinzie

It's a strange thing to suddenly disallow pushing a button which before has always been the standard here to find suitable opponents. Why is the button even there if it can't be pushed? Can you be restricted solely on the basis of having many opponents in a row who abort the game on you? Why wasn't this change properly announced?

Sousuke511

Agreed Heinzie, i didnt know you could get that warning... i mean im not against it, i find it pretty darn cool, but... i had no clue they had done it, and i log here at least once each 2 days.

You are pathetic.

People that abort games are pathetic. The only legitimate reason to abort is if you are unable to play the game (something comes up on very short notice?). If someone has to abort for some reason the least they could do is apologize so that I don't think they are a complete a**hole and block them. There are no good reasons for challenge accepters to abort because:

1. You know the time controls before you accept.

2. You know your opponents rating before you accept.

and there are no good reasons for challengers to abort because:

1. You can choose exactly the range of ratings allowed for your opponents

2. You can set your own time controls to anything you want

If you abort because you don't want white/black, then I have nothing to say, except that your a cowardly wuss.

If you abort because your opponent hasn't made his first move after a reasonable amount of time, (say 5-10s), then that's probably the second and last legitimate reason to abort.

Or that, you know, i'm trying to play against people as strong as i am. Should've paid closer attention to the ratings filter i guess. I didn't know my opponent's ratings beforehand because i've been using the start game button, so i'd get randomly paired up with somebody.

Get bent, browni.

A short summary:

luvr: "Guys I broke a rule and got banned. We have to play the games we start? That is a bit rediculous, but please unban me now."

browni: "You are pathetic. You broke a rule that with common sense and decency would not have been an issue."

luvr: "Yes I suppose you are right, but I am ignorant so I could not play against people I wanted to. Get bent, browni"

Aside from me not knowing about the ratings filter before this mess, i still don't see the problem with aborting a game before it starts. "Common sense and decency", give me a break...if you want to pad your rating playing against people rated much lower than you, bravo. Heck, there must be tons of pathetic cowardly people on here that use the filter in the first place right?

mrguy888

So you think it is cowardly to filter out all the people you don't want to play with but not cowardly to abort games you accept with them?

I was being sarca...

Nevermind.

sftac

I agree.

If someone aborts one game, no problem.

But, if they abort two games (or three, or whatever the limit might be for this site), well, they should suffer the consequences. It's nice there's a group so that any friendless members stuck in the penalty box have some hope of digging their way out.

So, even if your opponent doesn't make a move at first, don't be so quick to abort (have a book handy to read so you can pass the time pleasantly instead of fuming).

Best thread  ever written. xD

chessluvr111

For those of you still confused , no one was challenging me. I was getting matched up with whomever because i was using the start game button, all i could select was the time control. Yes, it's on me for not knowing about the filter option earlier, but i still find it a bit weird that such a rule was implemented in the first place.

TadDude, even though i've added a few friends i still get the same message when i try to challenge them. Any suggestions?
