I'm in the same boat. Java and Windows upload and it doesn't work. Had online GeekSquad support help me out as I thought something was wrong on my end and they confirmed that the problem is with the site.

I've tried activating add ons, etc.

I've tried using all browsers including Chrome, IE and Mozilla. All get the same warning.

Any help would be appreciated.

You should of read this thread before giving geek squad money.

To Locke2002;  thank you for your insight. I don't know squat about computers, but let me throw this out there. You said,"IF chess.com gets hacked; Could Erik be holding off to insure he doesn't get hacked??  I don't mind paying a little more, but the 1st of the year brought a lot of hack attacks to a lot of systems.

I'm signed on for the year with GS so it's not a big deal. Didn't realize there was a help forum. Now I know.

The titles are deceiving. You really have to look around. Sometimes you find help in weird places. The staff tries to moniter it, but there are thousands of people at any given time.

Ok, its just happened to me!!!! I knew it was coming because the old Java had a warning that future versions would block unsigned applications. But, I was forced to update when Java refused to do anything because it was out of date. Immediately NO access to the chess.com computer. Nothing fixed it, not firewall setting or Java console security exceptions. The only fix it to reduce Java security to medium. I know its risky but you can do it just while you play & then set it back. Thats the only working fix I can find at the moment!!

So come on chess.com, as I write you have 8,886,179 members & you can't provide a signed certificate for a Java application.... NOT Acceptable!!!

It happened to me also. I have had norton and att&t both try to fix it remote. But they could not, they told me to check with microsoft, but I don't know how.

Lowering java security to medium works.

I am NOT lowering my java security, and frankly you are not bright if you do so.

Yes, I said it.  You're not bright if you do it.  You're just putting a big sign on your computer that says, "HACK ME."

Same problem. I have tried all options. Clear cache, run CCleaner, change Java security to medium, Firefox and IE browsers, changing Windows Firewall. Nothing works. I guess we'll have to wait for Chess.com to fix it.

Same problem for me. Um, if I can't use all the features I paid for, especially the ones that attracted me to the site to begin with, how long before I decide to cancel my membership and go back to the free use?

Can't Chess.com send out some notice to its subscribers about this?

I don't recommend lowering your Java security if you are active all over the net. But you can do it just for the length of the game if you have appropriate security & only run 1 window. I run Linux with an encrypted drive, the same system I used for online stock trading & was moving up to $50,000 / day. But I agree there is always some risk so if you aren't sure then don't do it.

We need to keep the pressure up on chess.com, especially the people who are paying for membership.

Having the same problem!   Let's hope chess.com clears this up very soon!

This silence is quite annoying - makes you wonder whether the program itself is so insecure that it can't be approved for a certificate?

Chess staff, could you please update us on your progress?

Thankyou.

the applet will work after you lower your security level to medium (as

IndigenousSpirit mentioned).

however it is not a solution to the problem. maybe a simple workaround.

(have winXP, mozilla 26.0, j7upd51)

have a nice day.

I just sent in a ticket on this issue, having missed this Thread and I note that it was raised 5 days ago!

Chess.com need to let us know what is happening.

I hate to rub salt into the wound, but are you aware that after April 8, 2014, Microsoft will no longer issue patches for Windows XP? (We'll have to wait to see if Microsoft blinks and extends the deadline.)

playing the computer blocked as of this morning. Can't use the computer, java blocked.  In tactics trainer, \play against computer' can't do it anymore.

Avatar of lewisroon

I can play the computer if I lower Java security to medium. I raised the security while still playing, and I was able to continue play, so that's a solution of sorts.
