Loss on time

Playing a blitz game as white, blacks time went to 0.0 when i still had 1.3 seconds left. Then black made a move after time expired, it instantly came up black wins on time. Didn't let me move!  What type of piss take is this?

wanmokewan

I like to call it lag.

Martin_Stahl

The server keeps the accurate time and the client clocks are updated by the server. What you saw could be a combination of lag correction and temporary disconnects.

Just been ripped off again. Had a game 100% won, then lost on time because my opponent managed to make about 8 moves in 1 second! Each move took 0.1 seconds off the clock. [no need for that -- MOD] this website.

RonaldJosephCote

Imagine that! 0.1 secs.Frown    Your just not NASCAR material buddy.Cry

thankyouforthevenom

It's not worth playing, it's a total joke.

My opponent moved with 4.6 seconds left, then made moves at 2.7, 2.6, 2.5, 2.4, 2.3, 2.2, 2.1, 1.7, 1.6 and 1.5 seconds. I quit, pointless playing on here.

wanmokewan

I'm expecting to see you tomorrow. No one ever claims they'll leave and actually does it. They can't resist whining.

thankyouforthevenom

What i don't understand is why people bother playing when all they do is cheat a game they've lost. Must be a right sad gimp.

learningthemoves

I've lost thousands of games and hundreds of rating points due to lag that wasn't correct at all. Until there is a way to force the server to process the input times accurately I guess you can just be content to be underrated like I am instead of overrated like the slower opponents with poor network signals who benefit from the lag compensation.

Premoves take exactly 0.1 seconds.

learningthemoves

You would hope so. I premoved the first five moves of the opening on a 3 minute blitz and waited several seconds for my opponent to make his third move, after which, my clock immediately went down to 1:30 after my 4th premove automatically played.

My network signal status was excellent on my system tray but the green status symbol with excellent connection and no lag suddenly turned red on the site with that 4th move.

Something serverside isn't working right.

thankyouforthevenom: Thanks for sharing in this thread. I too lost a game recently in the same frustrating manner. Had thirteen seconds left in a winning position when the opponent moved then all of a sudden I lost on time!

I hope the site fixes this immediately as one can imagine how annoying and obnoxious such a hassle can be. This was the same problem in the previous version so it's disappointing to see this old pest creep up once again.

It is possible there was a server-side issue, it is also possible there was a client-side one where you got disconnected from the live server process/game and the code didn't reflect that. Could have been caused by any link along the way.

Martin_Stahl

Also, for those on v2, switching to v3 will likely get better performance since the v2 client code isn't being updated anymore.

learningthemoves

Thank you for the response Martin. I just lost another one for ten points where I had over 2 minutes left up a queen and then all of a sudden lose on time without using any more than a minute. On the other hand, the other day it was working better and I gained over 120 points in 15 hours. Not being able to identify or correct the issue is frustrating, disconcerting and renders ratings virtually meaningless due to the frequency and quantity of won games incorrectly forced into "losses" on "time"  with no recourse after using less time than opponents. I love the staff and members but it's disappointing to not be able to play live chess.

I'll start using v3.

IcyAvaleigh

I found out a premove on my phone always takes 0,1 second

IcyAvaleigh

But with lag 10 seconds

learningthemoves

Yeah, just won another one up a queen but then it took my time down from over two minutes to under 40 seconds and kept subtracting time from me when my opponent failed to move and I always moved quickly. I have an excellent connection and my node sent the data for the move to the server instantly but this time a message box appeared and said "your move Bg3 wasn't sent to the server on time" which isn't true and then said  my opponent won on time which most certainly didn't  happen.

I had hoped v3 would have had better performance.

Martin_Stahl

Just because you sent the move doesn't mean that some connection between you and the live server wasn't having issues.

learningthemoves

I agree.  It's those non-client-side caused connection issues provoking sore displeasure.
