That is a fair point about making them move specific, I have often thought the same!
Lost Note

It's a pain to write it in. Plus, why would it bother you if before your text, the move number was specified so you know what point you were at? I suppose, you could even delete it if it really bothered you. It could also be implemented as an option but I think the default should be to indicate the move number.

Well sometimes I post moves twenty to thirty in advance, which involves long chains of numbers and letters, so figure it would be less confusing to have mandatory numbers which I hope would be less confusing than just typing in my own on top of the rest of the notes.
But perhaps you are correct.

exigensky - is it more a paint to write it in (gosh! I had to hit two keys!)
than it is to
a) whine to erik about it
b) for erik et al. to implement it
...
Really?
It's really such a pain as that you'd rather some other people go to the effort to make it mandatory for you?
Okay. Cool. Gotcha. Too hard to type in but not hard enough to type in the request.
The way it works not allows what you'd like, only you're too lazy to do that, so you'd prefer staff implement something for you because it's a little tought to type the move number in yourself.
Yeah.
What a flamer.
I merely agreed that the first poster had a fair point and you go off half cocked, whatever rocks your boat man!

Haus, by your logic, no one would submit bug reports or feature requests as long as the workarounds took less time than the submission. This is a selfish perspective and is antithetical to the idea of progress itself. I made a suggestion which I hoped might benefit everyone as a whole. Even if it is not accepted, it might spur constructive feedback and give way to better solutions. It is precisely because I care and because I am not lazy that I went through the effort to do this. Normally, this is encouraged since it leads to progress. For example, Apple has welcomed my feedback even on tiny workflow issues. It used to be that pressing enter to change the name of a file in OS 10.4 highlighted the extension as well. Thus, one could not simply type the new name because it would leave the file without an extension. I wrote a feature request explaining that this is not the way users work and changing extensions is rare. In 10.5, pressing enter highlights the name but not the extension. Thus, one can type the new name immediately. These are small details but they add up and lead to a better experience overall. My suggestions here were of a similar nature. However, since they have been met with ridicule and made into strawmans, perhaps I should no waste my time.
I was writing a note and then my opponent moved causing the page to refresh. I lost a good bit of information in the process. There should have been a way to preserve what I wrote.
Moreover, the notes are not as useful as they can be because they are not move specific. What I really want is a mention of the move I was at when a note was made. After all, they lose their relevance quickly and it's hard to get any use out of them later when the specific move they were aimed at has long passed.
