You can completely turn off chat completely in your Privacy section (Account)

Where it says "Chat Bar", use the drop down box and mark as "Never Show" then save settings at the bottom of the page

I have had mine disabled for ages now because I personally think it is an infringement into a persons privacy

Thing that ticked me off most about it was the fact that anyone on your friends list at any time (whether you wanted bugging or not) were just free to just message you.
Some people like it, some people don't. It's nice that we have the option to turn it off if we don't.

Agreed. There are good and bad things about lowering the friction of asynchronous communication.

The never show is simply the meebo chat bar. Once never show is selected you will not have meebo on at all
This may have been asked before, but is there any way this 'MEEBO' chat function can be removed from a homepage?
I never use it, and the dialogue box is more than enough for me to use when talking to opponents.
The thing that really bothers me is that even though I never use it, when I look at my 'Internet History' box every night .... there is always at least a couple of dozen lines of 'MEEBO' entries!
Any help will be gratefully recieved.
