"Member Offline" when I am logged in

I tried to play my move of a daily game, but for some reason it didn't load up. I moused over to the "home" button and on the bottom right of the pop-up it showed the 4 bars, only one of them colored. (red) usually this means "Bad connection, high lag" but in this case it said, "Member Offline". But how can I be offline if I am logged in?

Good question.  I am, just over the last couple of weeks, getting this repeatedly and very annoyingly.  I am messaging to and fro with other people while trying to get a game started (so clearly online), and it insists I am 'offline'.  Why?  My membership is due to renew in January, so obviously, this will impact my decision whether to renew or not.  Sort it out, please, Chess.com
