Mobile chess on N8 (Nokia)

You should make a survey on the start page about what kind of phone chess.com users are using. This way you will find if you can let yourself go with apllication for the touch phones.

Sounds a good idea to me. With nearly 3.1 M members, there must be plenty of people who would like Ovi and other touch-screen app versions.

Agathoklis

I agree. Dev team should definitely reconsider their attitude towards "No plans of developing a new version".

And of course, the premium account subscriptions should be taken into consideration, too.

(On the bright side, no iphone user can take 12MP photographs like we do!)

Big up the 12MP.  Let us know when it's working for the N8 as otherwise I'll have to work all day instead ;-)

Guys, it works on the android very well. Ofcourse with touchscreen. It was the main reason for buying htc on android instead nokia N8... So I think chess.com should pay much attention on users.

I'm both disappointed and upset that Chess.com developers have decided not to support the Symbian 3 platform.  I'm a premium member and have been for years and have always played more on my phone than on my computer.  Now that I've upgraded to a Nokia N8, I'm out of luck.  I feel like I have no choice but to look into other chess apps to see if there's another chess site that is more focused on its customers.

Come on chess.com.  Surely you can find the resources to enable your platform to work on Nokia's newest phones.

I also have a N8. It's sad. Anyway, I am playing fine in the app from FICS. I got this app from Ovi Store and it's free. The app also can be token from www.odesys.com Chess.com, come on! Too many users from the world have a N8 PDA phone!
Limonchi

I have a Nokia C7 and the application does not work.
DISAPPOINTING

I will definitely not renew my premium subscription if the chess.com dev team keeps ignoring these comments.

Disappointing, indeed...

As yet another disappointed Nokia N8 user and Premium member I agree... No membership renewal until mobile app works on my phone!

Soong

Does anyone know if the Chess app will work under the new nokia symbian Anna OS upgrade? If so, it would make it worthwhile upgrading the OS!

Denis
if I were you I'd forgot about symbian. Android devices can be pretty cheap (wildfire for example). I use HTC desire and happy with chess.com app

Hi.

I got chess.com working on Nokia N8 using the (opera mini browser) app from ovistore. Once downloaded you can search/add/login etc just like on your pc and the game userface is no different but you cannot drag and drop instead you highlight a square with your finger and highlight another square for your move before submitting it.. have a go! Good luckCool

Soong

Thanks Col_Davo, excellent advice. Pleased to say it works for me too!!

(Nice victory for us 'users' over a website who's not interested in our problem.)

Nokia abandoned the platform.

Would you mind sharing a link?

If you type into google nokia abandons symbian there are over ten pages showing articles on it

Agathoklis

Thanks

Thanks for your (rather aggresive) opinion, mate.

When I was looking for a phone and decided on the N8 instead of the buggy iphone4, I could never expect something that trivial, as playing on chess.com with your new phone, would not work.

Would you be happy if that happened to you?

As for my premium subscription, it's up to me to decide if and when I will terminate, thank you very much.

Col_Davo

The Nokia N8 punches far beyond it weight, in comparison to my workmates latest i phone 4 and HTC etc..

Better screen quality, mass storage without conflicts, 12M Camera, Hdmi video, web supports flash, voice guided sat nav, Faster..

It will lose some other battles with apps (if thats your boat) but it wins hands down on some major phone needs!

and now with chess.com without an app but similar to the pc user experience.

All this and i pay under half the price as my work colleagues. Tongue out
