If you were auto warned or muted, then it would have either been for the use of a word on the auto filter (swearing), or for spamming game chat.

Our system warns first, if that warning is ignored, it then prevents you from chatting for 60 minutes.  If after that you swear again it removes you from live chess for 30 minutes.

Some members will spam their game chat when its their opponents turn to move to try and distract them, other times, its just a case of a sensitive auto filter picking up on someone entering text into the game chat too fast over and over.

The auto system will only kick for 30 minutes on first offence it the text it detects is highly offensive or more than one swear word is used in the same sentence.

There is no reason for any member on this site to use or feel the need to use abusive language at all. We have members of all ages playing here starting from a very young age. No-one comes here to be abused. They are here to play chess.

I tried to share a link to some music I was listening to with my partner (we had been having a friendly discussion) and got muted.  Are links disallowed, or did I just send too many message?

Thanks, this was really helpful :) I got muted after I got upset at an abusive member. (He's now sending me hate mail XP) I'll be sure to be more careful in the future ^^"

If he is being abusive to you on the site, feel free to send in a ticket reporting him. We'll take action against him as we don't tolerate any type of abuse.

Thanks. I already blocked him. I tried to find where to report abuse, but the only link I found just took me to the portal.

Currently, the send button isn't working very well. You can message me for the time being and I can help that way, but only until the submit report button is fixed :-)

Alright! Thank you :)

It lasts 30 minutes, as described in the other comments.

I note that you can swear when talking to your friends on live chess chat.

I'm sorry, I didn't think about the 'all ages' aspect of it. I just wrote something like 'wow that was a s**t move' (talking about my own) then later when I was cornered something like 'for f**s sake'. I've been muted but I guess an hour is fine. Are you still able to send smileys and stuff when muted because I think the guy thought I was being rude when I suddenly stopped responding.

Thanks. Laughing

That's all very nice, and all very true, but I got banned for using the name of our species in a conversation about biology and evolution.  Twice in one sentence.  It was a friendly enough conversation but your filter is overly sensitive if it thinks h. Sapiens is a swear.  So it is possible to get innocently banned, I can attest to that.  That's alright, now I know.   Also, some players are very vulgar and crude but only slightly misspell, so they get past the filter and their meaning is still quite clear.  I'd like the think the kids are all over at kidschess.com, because, I don't really want to play against 9 year olds.    But this is still the best moderated site on the internet, IMHO.

Players under the age of 13 do play here and without some kind of identity check there always will be, some with parental permission, some without.

That said, there are some pretty strong 9 year old players out there.

i did nothing wrong but i was muted.

I was analyzing a position in live analysis board with my friend and i suddenly got system message that i have been muted for 60 min without assigning any reason. Whats this?

The auto filter checks for a list of unacceptable words and warns and/or mutes on that basis. It looks like "period" is on that list, and although you used in an innocent context, the auto filter doesn't understand that, hence its action. Sorry about that - try to avoid using that particular term in the future.

Yeah the automod is stupid, now, isn't it, David?  I also got banned by the automod for having a discussion about evolution in which I typed 'h*o*m*o sapiens.   That, sir, is a scientific term, not a slur, and your automod is truely stupid.  So what do we do when we have a stupid automod?   Stop using it.  DUH.

I know a 12-year-old from my chess club their rating is almost 2000 on USChess which is a lot if ur in the US.
