My Pawn got killed by enemy pawn even though they are horizontally placed?¿

I dont understand how this works. I played (casually and every now and then for fun) chess for years so I would say I know most of the rules.
This is new though, I don't undrstand how the enemy pawn can kill my pawn from that angle.
