If your alert settings are correct then it is probably some latency on the server side. I have noticed that I get the 8 hour warning after I have already made my move sometimes.
I think it is related to having two versions of the site but I'm not sure.
You could toggle your alert settings to make sure they are set right. It may help.
All I get is the "You only have 8 hours left" Email.
