Offer of a draw

Hi,

I have offered a draw to several my opponents in the past. But never have they accepted my offer, nor did I receive any messages from them. How do I know whether they in fact saw my offer and rejected? Or maybe they haven't seen it at all?

I use a chess.com app for iPhone so whenever I press the "offer the draw" function, a pop-up message stating "Are you sure you want to offer a draw?" appears, and when I press "yes", I get kicked out of the application. Thanks!

After you've offered a draw, if they ignore the Accept/Decline and make a move, it auto declines the draw offer made.  If you see your game ended on a draw, they accepted the offer, if they continue to play, its safe to assume they declined it :)

To make the app better, we need to get the crash report from you. You can do this by going to the "Settings" page in the iPhone app. From there you will see a "Send Data to Tech Support". That will email us with the details of the position when you crash.

After sending that email, you should then return to the app settings and click on "Reset Game vs. Computer". Then you can start a new game against the computer in a non-crashing position.

Finally, if you are having a non-computer-related crash, follow the instructions here:

Step 1:
Sync your device with your computer.

Step 2:
Find your crash log here:

- If Mac OS X : ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/

- If Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Apple
computer\Logs\CrashReporter\

- If Windows Vista: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Apple
computer\Logs\CrashReporter/MobileDevice\

Your crash report will look like this:
Chess_2009-10-29-071531_Phone_Name.crash

Step 3:
Email your crash report to: iphone@chess.com

In your e-mail, please include your chess.com username, and  let us know what you were doing (or trying to do) when it crashed. Also, Please let us know what device you have, and if you know, what your firmware version is.

Generally the offer draw option is almost never usefull, since 95% of your opponents will reject it. I so far have never had a draw accepted by my opponents, even in sittuations where he was in disadvantage.

That app must hate draws to kick you out for offering a draw :)

I have 21 draws (9% of my games here) and I would say at least 75% of the draw offers I have made or have been offered here have been accepted.

I kind of wish the system kept track of draw offers though because I usually forget to notate it myself.

I have missed draw offers and moved only to find later on my e-mail that a draw was offered. I guess I just don't look for them.

Yup, the visual notification should be more blatant.

Yep. That's exactly what I thought. The opponent probably just doesn't see it.

Kohai, thanks for a detailed explanation. I'll try to follow your advice next time.
