I have just started playing and I'm only on level 800 but whenever I get close to the end of a game and I am winning the game freezes and my hard drive cooling fan comes on.
Resolved: Play online against the computer freezing at move 36

It seems likely that it's a server issue. People have been having issues with the computer lately. I have the same move 36 problem.
I have the same problem: Intermediate, White, Move 36, "Computer Thinking". I have loads of CPU and memory left so I can't see it being a local PC issue. Very frustrating.
Joined the forum today to post about having the same problem. Freezes at or around move 36. Tried playing at home, friends house and at work today (on my lunch hour :)). Same problem. Was going to join as a paying member, but knowing there are problems - and no one addressing this topic since the 14th when posted - I'm thinking it may not be a good idea.

Actually, stevesinflorida, the issue is currently being addressed. One of the staff members, kohai, informed me that they are fixing the issue.
Been having the same problem for some time now ( a few weeks), both as a complimemntary player & as a member....Shouldn't take this long to resolve.
Having the same issue. Move 36. Can you please advise if there is any ETA on when this may be resolved?
Thanks.
I have been having the same problem with the freezing on mid 30 moves. It has been 2 weeks now. Paying member. Please fix
There are multiple threads on this topic, some dating back to late November, yet not a word from an administrator in any of the threads on either an acknowledgement of the problem or ETA on a fix. Seems a bit strange for a site to go silent on this when they have 4mm+ members.
Yes, the silence is deafening, isn't it......Kind of makes you wonder if they pay attention to the threads at all.
I sent another message to 'Support' today and summarized all of the thoughts posted to date on this thread. Hopefully, someone will respond on the admin end and resolve this problem. I did get an auto resoponse promising a real response within 24 hours. I'll be happy to post whatever response I receive for everyone's general knowledge.

There was a similar problem on the official Scrabble players website a while ago, games voided through no fault of the player because of server issues. I seem to recall from the forums like this one there was a mass 'Im leaving' threat before the problem was fixed overnight! I am a relatively new player on this site so I hope this mid-thirties glitch is sorted ASAP, there are plenty of other online chess sites!
I received an e-mail from Member Support today (goes by 'doubledouble'), who informed me that they are aware of the problem, are working on it and hope to have it resolved soon. Although I'm impressed by the fact that the response came on New Year's Day, I'm a bit jaded because of the posts prior to my own which state that the issue was passed on to Member Support earlier and more than once. HOWEVER, I'm willing to be patient, given that Whereangelstread1's option is always available. If I receive any further info, I'll pass it on, but I suggest that all concerned contact Member Support to reinforce the complaint.
When I play as "white" against the computer with level 1600 it freezes at move 36. I have tried emptying java temp files, reinstalling java, etc. I have tried from different PC's on different network. Is something going on with the server?
How long we have to wait for solution to be solved
Don't know, don....There is a possibility that they don't monitor or respond to posts on the forum threads....They do, however, respond to Member Support complaints, as I have discovered. Tha's why I am suggesting that everyone who posts on this thread with this problem contact Member Support & register the complaint. They squeaky wheel gets the grease, or so I'm told.
Thanks, Bill...Good to know....If I don't hear or see something by the end of the week, I'll contact Member Support again and ask them to look at this thread for a clue as to how many unhappy subscribers there are....If that doesn't get a reply or result, we'll have to consider "Occupy Chess.com"....What do you think?!?

We've just added a fix for the 'against the computer' issues members have been experiencing.
Can you go into computer chess, look on the bottom right corner of your monitor. Can you click on the java icon then Open Control Panel.
Once this is open, use the bottom box where it says 'Settings' - when that new box opens, click where it says 'delete files'.
Then OK
Once you've done this, refresh the page.
Sometimes the java icon is turned off from appearing in the tray. If you're running windows....
start button/control panel/java/advanced/miscellaneous/check box "Place icon in system tray"
Also try clearing your cache, and even your java cache. see: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/plugin_cache.xml
Then try 'against the computer' for me. If you're still having issues on there can you please let me know in detail whats happening.
Thanks
