odd you would notice. lol I don't recognize you from my groups or friend list.  I've had a few more then 3 actually I change them often to suit whatever is going or if I find something that i like that I think would thumbnail well.  I didn't know you could only change names once so I am stuck with seraphimity.  A combination of Seraphim, Divine Angel of sorts, and Serandipity and a dash of Mighty...

I use my mobile so I don't see any avatar when I play. ;)

Like it was said before, maybe it's a common name in Germany, but more likely the player finds the juxtapositon of Jesus and Nazi's amusing. I would let it slide but I imagine some are offended. It's hard not to offend someone these days.

probably not really a violation but it could come under a 'poor taste' best leave that to the staff to decide.

If people were eliminated for poor taste there would be nobody here.

A famous chessplayer, I forget who, once said "Play the board, not the avatar."

Good advice, especially if you play me. Hasta La Vista, baby.

That's method #24 on my blog, behind covering one eye and tilting your head.

How do you know when it is offensive? Easy.

Would you let your 12 yr old boy or girl look at here?

Most boys are curious and get horny  at some time and get a bunch of them together and they do stupid things. At some point they will approach a female at this site in a inapproapate manor. Why? They saw something offensive and it remained so they figure they can get away with it. Chess.com as far i can remember they try to make it friendly for the youth. As i know several females that have been verbally offended here. I say 10% of them attracted that to themselves. But the 90% want to enjoy playing chess here and other activities related to chess.

As an Admin of a group if i have a member that wishes to pursue this type of activity i will delete his/her messages without a 2nd thought if they relate to anyway to their avatar or not. If it continues i will remove them from the group.

If you do not like their avatar do not take challeges from them or send them. If in a Team Match against them make your window smaller and turn off chat. Easy. Just show the 8 ranks and below eliminating their name, avatar and etc. If it really offends you then leave a comment in the Team Match area when you finished your game that you do not want to play that team again and have the possible chance of having to see that avatar. Pretty sure if that keeps happening the SA of that group is not going to want them for Team Matches.

royalbishop, you are an admin for chess.com correct?

Smyslov but he said not the player.

Thats easy for Smyslov to say, he didn't have to deal with avatars. What about the rest of us?

Admin of several groups on chess.com. Some  well known in Team Matches or Vote Chess.

Even when i am not an Admin i make my point. I once got into it with a player over something similar. It took him a while but he got it. He turned down the volume on ......subjects that were adulted related material. They have groups on this site where you can go 100% full blown on matters like this and it is obvious by their names.Free to cut loose in those groups as those members do not mind at all and in private not public area here. Nobody gets hurt.

I am really offended in my best feelings that there is no limitation on what picture each individual can use as an avatar. Just imagine, how can I play against the player http://www.chess.com/tournaments/player_summary?id=37672&member=Reinhard_Heydrich if Jesus Christ is my God?

Reminds me of one of my favorite jokes (The best jokes are the ones where a punchline is delivered by some physical movement, IMNSHO)

Q. "Why did the blonde go to church?"

A, "Because she heard there was a guy there who was hung like this..." (Stand up with your arms stretched out wide)
