Pre-moves take 5 seconds?

On live chess, I've been experiencing significant lag for processing moves, and it's hurting my game (which is not very strong under ideal conditions! Smile).  I turned on the option to pre-move, thinking it would help, but it actually costs me more time to use pre-moves than it does to make moves on my own (pre-moves seem to always cost around 5 seconds, and regular moves I can get through in 3-4).  Is this kind of lag normal?  Is there a set time that pre-moves cost?  Is there anything I can do to make the time cost more accurately reflect how long I deliberate on moves?

Thanks!

pre moves should be instant, probably something wrong with your internet

Could be, but I only run into problems with chess.com.  Anything I could do to confirm?  And why would I be able to move manually faster than with premoves?  Even if it's my connection, premoves should still be the fastest option, right?

Are premoves stored locally?  Is live chess flash based, or is some other component that may be running especially slowly for me?
