In every country there are richer areas that send excess taxes to their central government that are spent on the poorer areas.  If the rich areas were always free to succeed, it would destabilize the world.

Catalonia is one such relatively wealthy area.

I'm not sure if our 230 year old Union will survive the current administration, and I look forward to the flag controversies that will undoubtedly occur here after California, Oregon and Washington (maybe joined by Hawaii and Nevada) split off to form their own country.  Related question:  Is the Jefferson "double cross" flag available on chess.com?
