I played an opponent close to my rating, so +8/-8 on the match. I won, so +8 for me, but my opponent was -25! Can anyone explain why? Thanks in advance.
Your opponent didn’t have many games, or many recent games, in the rating pool. The site uses the Glicko rating system that includes a measure of rating uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. New players, or players with gaps in play will have a higher RD value, so they’ll see larger rating changes after games, until more games are played.
