If it's a turn based game, it's possible that the opponent won or lost some games while you were playing, and therefore has a different rating than when you started.
Resolved: rating point adjustments
David Thank you for reponding to my quetion. I hear and that might be a factor. However, but it still doesn't answer the main thing. The adjustment is made instantly at the time my game with my opponent ends. So it's based on rating when all info is factored in. And still unanswered is what the points are as shown in the game details. Also how can we players know when we are playing what we are playing for?. I think I'll throw this one at David Pruess He may have to go to the programming peope
Based upon my subsequent analysis and info from David Pruess, all my questions regarding rating point adjustments have now ben answered and the subject is closed fom my stand point. Hear is how the system functions . Turn based players will not know for sure the point adustments they are playing for at the start of the game. The point adjustments will be made at the close of the game based upon a system that can not be evaluated for accuracy or fairness. However, because the point adjustments are based upon a consistent system, over a period of time a player's rating should provide a fair evaluation of the skill level that a player has achieved. As for the icons shown in the game details box, there is a theoretical explanation for the values they represent. However, in reality they are meaningless. Nevertheless they do look nice.
Yeah, earlier today, I was reading Glickman's explanation of his Glicko rating system & how it differs from the hallowed ELO system. Looks like USCF, FIDE, & especially BCF could be using this to be more accurate in their ratings (to say nothing of making the Brits a little more amenable to the rest of the chess world).
How can I determine the rating adjustment that will be made for a win orl loss. The game details show points but those are not the actual points that are really made when the game is won or lost. For example I just won a game and got 7 points added to my rating when the details show 25 points. What's going on ?
