Last I heard, they have to refer to you during their membership purchase as your having been their referral to chess.com, before you become entitled to any credit as their referrer.
(It's not enough that you use a chess.com widget.)

No thats not right they are a unpaid member both then and now....and the point is they were a member before I had ever joined or even heard of this site ,so how could I have possibly been their referrer!!
What seems to have happened is that they joined the site before I ever even heard of the site so I couldn't have been their referer,but they remained inactive for a longtime and then became active again after clicking on a widget on my blog..
Otherwise it doesn't make sense..
Point of edit...no thats not right either they have not been inactive at all ...so can't figure this for s**t.

Today I got a new referal come up on my referal thing on my profile page,from some one who joined the site 3 years ago
is there something am missing because this is before I joined the site.
How exactly do these things work?
