Resetting my ratings

Hello, I've just returned to playing chess after a 2.5 years break and have upgraded my membership in my old chess.com account to premium, but want to set all my ratings back to zero, so I can have a fresh start. Please can you let me know how to do this, or if I will need to close my old account and open a new one and have my premium membership switched to my new account?

Your advice is much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Ed

As far as I know, the only thing you can reset is your Tactics Trainer rating.

Your "online chess" rating of 2068 says that you were a skilled player. Why reset them and have to start over with beginners? A few games and it will all come back to you.

What's the worst that could happen? You might even lose your first game. Would that be so bad?

If you think you are not as good as your 2068 rating implies, I think you will get to an accurate rating a lot sooner starting with your existing rating than you would starting over.

Thanks Notmtwain, appreciate the response. I did manage to reset my tactics trainer and started again on that. Sadly because of ill health which caused me to stop playing chess in the first place, I'm never going to be able to attain the same level of dedication to chess as I had back then. Plus I've recently become a father, so again less time to play chess seriously. To be honest, I wanted to avoid getting invites from players around my old rating, because despite the fact I'm happy to lose matches, it's been hard enough deciding to get back into playing chess again in the first place and so I wanted to ease myself in gently, rather than get too despondent by constantly losing every match I play. Do you know if Chess.com staff read these posts and whether someone can answer my question about transferring my premium membership to another account if I close down my current account? Thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Ed
