Rules for team matches

I have never played in a team match. I have played turn based games aka online chess.

Is a team match a set of turn based games? I know that in turn based games I can use a book to look up moves or ideas or whatever. Is it the same in team match games?

If a friend is in team match game can I advise him about a good book to use?

And by the way, I really like chess.com, but the help menus are poor.

Team matches are the exact same as online chess, just you're playing through a group.

When you join a team match you get two games only, both against the same person. One game where you play as white, one where you play as black. How the ratings work for if you win or lose your own games still work the same as they do for any other online chess game,  but if your group wins the match, they win points for their group (which show on a leaderboard).

Your post regarding the use of a book in a team match brings up another question.

For now forget team matches - lets talk turn based online chess games.

Can I use a book? I thought it is OK to use a book - any book. Is that correct?

If I remember correctly from my last chat with Erik about this, I was told ;

You may NOT get any help from any person or any chess engine throughout the course of a game, including tablebases. You MAY use books, magazines, or other articles. You may also use Game databases which do not include computer analysis (including Chess.com's Game Explorer) for the Online (correspondence) Chess only

If this ruling has since been updated, I'm not aware of it

I don't think any new suggestions are being considered at the moment with v3 so close to its release date, but its a good one to post in the Feedback & Suggestions forum. I haven't seen the latest updates for v3 so don't know if its already been added or not.

If I enter a team match... will they give me a reasonable opponent?
Cause I am a beginner with very low rating.. doesn’t seem fair if they put me against a master or something.
just curious... quiet new here.

It depends on who else signs up to the match.

Someone just told me that if I would be the third best player , I would play against the other teams third best player....

Thanks for the link!

I noticed sometimes there is a rating range... that’s cool.

No. 3 days per move means that when you opponent moves you have 3 days to move and when you move your ooopnent has 3 days to move.
