Stopping the spammer

Is it just me but, I haven't even seen this guy.

Berder

He has started again just now.  He's spamming "stop stop stop stop" instead of Georgian text but I think it's the same guy.  I reported him.  If I was mod he would be banned instantly.

Berder

It's definitely him, he's alternating between "stop stop stop stop" and Georgian spam.  He's been doing it in the Hikaru vs Last7Samurai blitz games.  https://www.chess.com/live#g=4867017707

Honestly, that is pretty pathetic if you think about it. Does this person really have nothing better to do with their life than spam on a chess site?

Rodgy

ikr

Rodgy

if u go to hikaru's game you'll see him all over there.

Berder

He's been spamming nonstop for 45 mins now.  The only solution is to have mods in live chat who can ban him instantly, instead of just reporting him (which does nothing since he makes so many new accounts and it takes too long for mods to review the report).  I haven't received any response from the moderators group, haven't even received the application.

Rodgy

wait... can a chess person with like the blue thingy ban them?

Rodgy

liek the one below the green icon but the blue one

I say we hire a bounty hunter.

If it is in the filters, it won't show. If something shows up repeatedly in a short period of time, the member gets muted.

Mod have to earn first, mute second, then live  kick, and only ban when it is certainly a return abuser or multi-accounter. That is based on a few tools. Instant bans should only be done when it is absolutely certain of the identity and not just some kid trying to be funny.

It sounds like you aren't understanding the magnitude of the problem.  This guy *is* a  multi-accounter, repeated ban evader.  He ties up a live chess chatroom with 200 people in it, with nonstop spamming on several accounts for over an hour at a time.  He is instantly identifiable by the fact that he is filling the screen with Georgian spam.  This isn't some kid trying to be funny.  He makes several new accounts for *every spamming session*.  If each of his accounts isn't stopped *immediately* then he wins and chess.com loses.

Martin_Stahl

I completely understand. I've banned 20-30 of that person's accounts, some before they were probably used to spam (within minutes of account creation).

I'm not saying you are wrong when you see the account, but the first reaction is almost never ban; a kick or mute first, then some checking to make sure it likely is the returning person. Most of the time it will be obvious, but still could just be a kid that is unrelated. Moderators have to be careful not to get an innocent account.

By the way, if you have some of the names, message them to me so I can see if they have been handled and see if there are more that might be dormant.

That all said, even stopping the spammer immediately doesn't stop them. There are a number of repeat offenders and as long as they can easily make accounts and post quickly, it will always be a game of whack a mole.

Berder

Yeah, it's a game of whack-a-mole, but it's better to have someone there whacking the mole as soon as it pops up.  I understand that sometimes there are copycat spammers who aren't the guy.  Among the accounts I reported yesterday were two copycats.  The spammer is usually identifiable by the type of screen name chosen (similar to his previous screen names, with variations) and the fact that they haven't played any games.  If you let me help stop this spammer, I won't ban unless it's certain who it is.

I've lately been just reporting him, not blocking him, so unfortunately I don't have a list of his recent accounts to give you.  If you can get a list of the accounts I reported recently, he would be every one of them except for two:  one was someone who I remember had their whole name in all caps, and the other was a diamond member.  Pretty sure those two were just copycats.  I'll note down his accounts when I report them, from now on.  Do live chess chat logs get archived?  The spammer's recent accounts were in all the games Hikaru played against Last7Samurai yesterday.

Berder

He is currently spamming in these games:  https://www.chess.com/live#g=4871658144

Berder

He spammed for 50 mins using 6 different accounts.

I'm no mod but I think giving chess.com staff the account names would get your problem solved faster than vaguely complaining about it.

Rodgy

bro this guy actually said my name...

he said like: u r a fighter, roger, like because i was saying that he's a spammer and report him and stuff. and he was spamming shameless American.
