To tell you the truth, if you have a serious virus problem, a System Restore is NOT going to remove the problem. System Restore does not delete new files, and even if it did, most virus programmers are well aware of how Windows protection services work, and could easily defeat them.
Chess.com does not have a virus problem, or many, MANY more members would report problems with security.
To get rid of the problem on your computer, I recommend reformatting your hard drive completely (use XP or Vista restore CD and the command-line prompt), virus scanning the cleaned drive, then reinstalling the OS and anti-virus software (AVG is good), and a good firewall (Zone Alarm, even the Windows one is better than nothing) before ever going online.
Thanks for the info on System restore.
I have a Packard Bell computer and used their Restore facility. It says it restores to the state of when the computer when bought computer, and says all files will be deleted. But I agree it also could have been infected.
If lots of people are not experiencing the problem it must be an infection of my computer only.

I have used AVG on this site since joining, I have never had a virus report from here.
System restore, restores from a backup file, one of several that you might choose to restore from,The main problem with this is that the restore files can contain a virus, and unless AVG is set to scan the restore files, the result is a new infection. This may or may not be triggered by chess.com,but is more likely to be triggered by running your browser.
To cure this problem, set AVG to scan all files, and let it do the full scan, before you do a restore!
Or you might give this a try,it finds and cures malware and adware that AVG does not find and cure.
I have twice had to restore my computer to the state of when I bought it after accessing chess.com and getting viruses.
The second time after after restoring compuer back to when I bought it, I only installed Internet conection software, and latest AVG from the web.
I ran AVG and it displayed no viurses were detected.
I then oNLY accessed chess.com clicked submit button to make a move and got notification of various viuses threats (was told was 38 threats) and eventually The "computer center" displayed message saying serious threat detected of TrojanSDPM/LX. (This may be a viurs dummy message?!)
After about 30 minutes was not able to run anything! AVG's resident shield was not able to protect.I think it is possible that a chess.com pop up or advert contains a virus ot something is "piggy backing" on this or something else on the site to infect my computer
I realise may that the viuses may nothing to do wih chess.com, as Internet Explorer is not very secure, and it could be a coindence. I am using Windows Xp, and Internet Explorer, and a free member. I can't believe I am the only one experiencing these problems. I may be the only way able to let you know!
