Right I think I've figured it out ... it's the iPhone app that's giving me the low rated problems (cause I just used the website for a while and the problems I was getting there were fine)
If you check my rating graph, the point when it nosedived is when the iPhone app came out:

Hey there, Something seems to be wrong with the algorithm that chooses tatics problems. In my last 25 problems, I've answer 21 correct, but my rating has only gone up 27 points. This is because I'm only getting low rated problems. I don't care about my rating, apart fom the fact that it means I'm not learning a lot repeating easy problems over and over. Another unrelated issue: the iPhone app has started asking me to upgrade to a premium membership, despite the fact that I already have a diamond membership. And yes, i'm logged in to the app. Thanks!
