I have a few questions, if you could please answer them.
It has been 5 years since the mass degenerate spamming in the comment sections of the top games in live chess on this website started. Yes, some spam and degeneracy has always been a bit of a thing, but it seriously ramped up in 2020 during the quarantine, and it has been getting worse ever since. How is it that in those 5 years (FIVE WHOLE YEARS), absolutely next to nothing has been done to solve this problem? How is it that new accounts made merely hours ago are able to spam, which was not previously the case, as there used to be a limiter that stopped new accounts from being able to comment for several days. If the limiter is still there, how are they able to bypass this?? Plenty of times I have clicked on a new spammer's account and have seen "Joined 4 hours ago" or "Joined 1 day ago". The block button, which would previously, after blocking and refreshing the page, remove someone's prior comments and hide their future comments, now no longer does anything—even after blocking a spammer and refreshing the page, I am still able to see them spamming degenerate comments. By degenerate, I mean comments that are highly racist, highly sexist, and highly discriminatory. Even Hikaru has mentioned several times in passing how disgusting the comment section has become. How is there no cooldown between messages? If there is, how are they able to bypass this and spam endlessly? I literally have had cases where I could not even attempt to block a spammer (not that blocking would do anything for reasons aforementioned) because they were spamming so fast and so large that I could not properly click on their username. How is there not even an option to disable the comments when watching these games? Surely that is the least that can be done. Yes, there is an option to disable comments when you are playing someone, not when you are watching games. I refuse to believe that no developer has taken notice of this problem that has plagued the site for 5 years. So it is a case of negligence, whilst you are busy improving the layout of my profile page.
This may seem harsh, but it has been extremely frustrating as someone who every single day, when time permits, likes to kibitz top blitz games and make a few comments. To attempt to have a conversation with other honest kibitzers about the game at hand, and then to have it all drowned out by a sea of the most vile, disgusting messages, from MULTIPLE spammers, is infuriating.
