Time control

Hello all, I have a quick question. In a 3 days per move tournament my opponent haven't made a move in almost a week. However, his clock display that he still have 25 hours to respond. Worse, last night the remaining time for him was reading 10 hours and today it reads 25. This repeats every night without any moves being made. I am not talking about Vacation allotment, where time control is simply suspended. I am talking about this weird "feature" that allows time to revese itself. Does Chess.com allow to buy "lives" like in Doom II, or my opponent figured out how to beat the system?

Thank you,

igutman

When their game time to move gets really low, they're sent a message letting them know they're low on time.

Auto vacation then takes 1 day from their vacation time and adds it to the clock time on the game, and puts them on vacation mode.

So when you check the game, thats why you see it still showing more hours (plus minutes) hours remaining.

Thank you, Kohai. What if my opponent has 30 vacation days? Is this how long it takes for me to get a response? And I have much less vacation days than my opponent, so how is it fair to me, as I can't "hide" from responses for that long. I thought we all have equal opportunity in these tournaments. What the 3 days per move tournament really means in this case? Isn't it more like, "as many vacation days I have" per move tournament? I thought the site had a policy against using vacation as an escape from forfeting poor positions. Isn't this policy does just the oposite? My opponent goes on "vacation" a few times a day, just to slow down his clock. Re-emerges, responds to a few games he feels like and then goes on "vacation" again. This is not right as is. Now you are telling me that Chess.com also does it for him automatically and automatically(!) stretches 3 days per move time control. Are you sure that this is the intention? Thank you for youe answer.

At the moment, none of your opponents are marked as being on vacation. If hes a premium member and his time to move gets low, the auto time out activates, so its not necessarily your opponent doing it.

I understand Kohai, thanks. What happens if my opponent chooses not to make a move? He is still actively engaged with other games in the tournament, but stopped making moves in games with me, as soon as his position is not looking pretty. What will eventually force him to move at all? Is there a limit on how many automatic extensions a premium member can have? Thanks.

Everytime his games are paused, he loses vacation time and it will get to the point where hes forced to play or lose on time as he won't have any vacation time left.

If it does appear hes playing in all other games except the one with you, let me know privately.

There are tournaments available to play that don't allow vacation time, so if someone does go on vacation, all there games are protected except those in 'no vacation' tournaments.
