UI Bug: Time Selection not updating on Android (Multiple Devices)

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing a persistent UI bug in the latest Android app update across three different devices: Pixel 8 Pro, Samsung A53 5G, and a Xiaomi Tablet.

The Problem:

When I tap the time control button above the "Play" button, the selection menu appears as usual. I can tap a new time (e.g., changing from 10 min to 5 min), the button reacts (turns gray/highlights), and the menu closes. However, the time on the main screen does not change. It remains stuck on the previously selected time.

What I have tried so far:

Cleared Cache and App Data.

Uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

Logged out and back in.

Tested it in "Guest Mode" (the bug persists even there).

Changed system language and app language.

Workaround found:

The selection only works if I go through the "Play" -> "Custom" menu. The quick-selection widget on the main home screen seems to be broken and doesn't pass the data to the game logic.

Since this happens on three completely different hardware platforms, it seems to be a hardcoded bug in the current Android build. Is anyone else seeing this, or is there a fix in the works?

Ditto. Except for custom menu. It does not change from 10 minute game.

It looks like a lot of people is getting this bug. There might be something wrong in the apps code. You can perhaps ask a staff about this bug.

Just read my text carefully, that answer your question. We do have a bug here in the App interface.

I’ve got the same problem. Android tablet. It’s been like this for 3 days now. If you send a challenge to a friend, that seems to change the gamemode. It’s still stuck on whatever you have selected, but at least for now that will temporarily work

Hi again,

Found a way around the bug :

Open your app on your device,

Open Chess.com on your browser on the same device (on any page). (Mine is an android tablet).

Connect to your account

On top left of the page there's a hand holding a chess piece, tap that button and an eventual "play online" popup button.

You get to choose timersettings and when you tap the play button it goes back to you playing on your android app.

You still can't change the time on the app, ! But at least your playing in your own time setting !

Yes and all the workarounds are not really comfortable. I have now cancelled my Diamond Abo and will more use Lichess instead. Paying for Diamond and no reaction isn't in my favor.

understandable, as far as I know, they claimed the bug is fixed and we should update the app. But since there are no available updates...

The problem has been fixed. As of today I can change the time.
