what happens when vacation time runs out ? do they lose the option to set vacation time up? does the match clock start again? Is there an area listing rules on this site?  let me know somebody please or I'll go on vacation!

here's one situation where the vacation might be less then a day: i went to visit a house in india. there is no computer there, so i went on vacation beforehand. then, my dad took me to an internet center in the city, and i played there.

if anyone has ever played against me they know i use my vacation alot. its not because i am stalling for more time. the problem is that im in china and do a lot of traveling. most of the time i don't know if the next hotel i will stay in will have an internet connection so i use the vacation feature. i love this site because it has that. i know it can be frustrating to my opponets but i don't use this to "gain" an advantage i just don't want to lose games that are going good because some hotel can't keep up with the times and get internet access. i'm aware some abuse it but are they really worth the frustration? when someone is a sore loser trying helpless tricks it shouldn't bother anyone, you just have to recognize desperation.

when are you coming back from china

I am playing a game right now where I have a mate in two (one really, unless the person really wants to make it two) but then the person went on vacation (after offering me a draw, as a friend, of course). Then I check, the person is online, and not on vacation anymore, great. The last move was yesterday, a 24 hours vacation? Alright. Then I go see a bit later, back on vacation and still hasn't played a move or resigned. I go see the person's game, the person went out of vacation, played the moves in everyone of her game, except mine, then went on vacation again.

Would there be any way to prevent this? It's somewhat annoying... But of course, as the person is winning games right now, when she finally conclude the game she will lose more points and I will get more as she will most likely be higer rated, so she's only harming her own score doing this in the end.

The moment I learned about vacation time, this type of misuse occured to me.  Just sit back, relax knowing that you have the game won (check every day though...you dont want her sneaking in a move and having you run out the clock)  As long as YOU know that he/she knows that they are being a Poopy McFartyFart, and casting a bad image on themselves, then who cares? Right?  Poor sportsmanship always makes the victory sweeter!...as I say

I've had that same problem. The guy went on vacation in Novemeber. It ended about two weeks ago when the time ran out and he didn't move.

There are people who will find a way to "abuse" anything. The vacation feature on chess.com is certainly NOT an exception. There are probably also people in the world who dont believe criminals exist because they have never been a victim of crime themselves.

Hi people,

Please show me how to avail of this vacation, I would be away far from the computer for several days.

Thanks.

In my opinion, this is actually, "I am going to win this game and am not patient enough to wait for it."  Part of chess, at least good chess, is patience.  Rules are rules and they can be abused.  If they are within the scope of the rules, are they really abuse?

I can think of many reasons why "she" might not have moved on your game.  Perhaps she finds it the most difficult game and needs to think it over, or does not see the mate.  I have not seen many mates ... and most have not seen at least one mate.

The bottom line is this:  The rules state that she can take vacation.  Let her take vacation.  That should not effect the outcome of your game.  It might/has/will effect when that outcome will take place, but speed chess is not correspondence chess.

As for vacation being limitations such as being forced to take a minimum of x-time, that does not seem to be well thought out to me.  Life, and the things that draws one away from an online chess site, are to complicated to have such a rule.

I'm playing a tournament where there are only a few games left in the first round. In my group there is only one game left and my opponent moves very slow. He always takes all his time plus about 2 days of vacation time. But he doesn't to this to avoid a quick mate, because his position is at least equal.

If this game were the only game in the whole tournament left, I might offer a draw or even resign (the persons who will get to the next round won't change anymore). So I looked how many games there are still going.

I saw 4 games where the last move was made in October 2017, like this one: White didn't move since black played Nxf3+, though white was online even today.

(I know you shouldn't talk about ongoing games. But it looks like this isn't going anymore.)

If that person is using their vacation that way, they'd be running down their bank of vacation time pretty quickly. If you think vacation time is being abused particularly egregiously, you can report it to the Support team via Help --> Report Abuse --> Contact, and if they agree, they can force a result.

Thank you. I reported him and the game ended today, because "white resigned". I don't know if white resigned or the staff did it (do you get a different message then?). But the game is over, that's nice.

I have problems with the abuse of the vacation by [name removed]

I started play with him games 1 move per 3 days and couple months ago he started obstruct gamee and he abuse of vacations.
I think that I'm now in better positions and he use vacations time and in the same tame he play games with other player while I waiting 13 days for one move.

[Please don't make accusations about other members in the public forums - if you believe your opponent's behaviour is unacceptable, please report them to the Support team via Help --> Report Abuse --> Contact, and they will investigate and take appropriate action.
