Vacation not kicking in

For the past 2-3 days I have barely been able to get online due to other activities in my life.

Normally with me being a premium member I will receive an email for each game when the time gets to approx. 7 hours then my games will go on vacation automatically if games are about to time out.

Has this changed recently and I don't know about it? Because when I got online this evening (fortunately) I had games that were less than 3 hours with NO EMAIL and NO VACATION switched on.

Has your vacation time run out Donna?

I don't know why you wouldn't have gotten an email, but for me, the auto-vacation usually only switches on when I'm down to about 50 minutes or so in my game with the least time remaining.

I have had an enforced time out this week due to things being crazy at work. I got emails once games had less than eight hours to go and once they got to less than an hour, auto vacation switched on.

Same for me, at eight hours the email, and somewere between 30 and 90 minutes vacation safety kicks in. Never had missing vacation mails.

Tournament games where is no vacation allowed do not recieve the mails

I have over 2 months in vacation time left and about 10 games had between 3 and 7 hours left. 1 Game had 99 minutes so maybe that's why vacation hadn't kicked in but I rely on them emails so that I know when time is running low

Vcation time activates at 90 :)

It seems that auto-vacation time kicks in at nine minutes after the hour.  I think chess.com checks your games 24 times a day (once every hour at XX:09).  If chess.com finds one game with 30 to 90 minutes of time remaining, then it will pause your games.  Once you come back to make moves, I think the system checks within the next few minutes to see if you have completed your moves or not.  If not, then the vacation will kick back in.  I don't know if this is completely correct or not though.  :)

Kohai it still doesn't explain why I received no emails telling me time is running out

You might want to check your alert and e-mail settings to make sure you got it set up the way you want it.  If you use to get e-mails alerting you and mysteriously not getting any now, then I'm not sure what happened.  Hopefully, nobody else is getting into your account.

I have always had email alerts being sent to my email address which is why I am wondering

When you log off, do you click 'logout' ? or do you (did you) click the X in the top right corner (if in a hurry?)

I got those "hurry up" emails for a few days, as I play in a 1000-1200 tournament with a 1500-rated player. To annoy him back in his brutality, I make only one move a day now, making that I get these e-mails almost every day.

I don't know for the auto-vacation switch. That has happened to me one time, long ago, but I'm actually playing all the time, continously on my Android HTC Wildfire, so I won't let the site push me into auto-vacation like that.

Kohai I do what I have done every day since joining the site. I have never "clicked log out" I ALWAYS just close the web page but that has NEVER affected my "reminder" emails which go to my email address.

All very enlightening: it seems the system aint really broke, just has a few quirks one needs to be aware of!Smile

I get two emails; 1st one telling me I'm gonna' lose on time if I don't watch out, and the 2nd one telling me my games have been paused.  I can't say for sure when they send them, and there may have been one or two times when they may have gone to spam.  I can't recall if I've never NOT received them, though.

Still, my rating's so over-inflated that if I did lose a game on time, I wouldn't care (other than to apologize to my opponent).  Besides, email or no, you and I have so much vacation amassed that our games will still kick into pause mode automatically.
