Website completely broken

Hello,

The chess.com website was working fine up until yesterday - both new and old versions.  Then since yesterday, all of the sudden everything is totally broken.  The old version looks fine, however all of the chessboards are permanently blank and I can't do anything.  See picture of old version:

The new version is COMPLETELY broken and non functional.  This is the login for the new version:

And here I tried to go to the openings page.  Please look:

On the openings page, each opening's chessboard is HUGE, takes up the entire screen, and is totally blank.  Everything is a mess and I cannot use chess.com at all.  Please help me!!!!

It works for me...it's a problem on your end.

ArgoNavis

Blame that on capitalism

It's the only thing you communists do

Apart from trying to work less every day

Try clearing your cache.

Diakonia

Working fine today and yesterday.

v2 is fine, There is no pieces on the boards in v2 either but everything  is like usual. In v3 i can't have access to my groups and to live chess...

What browser? I have been using v3 and have only had a few session problems.

I've been experiencing some of these issues myself (messed up menus/interfaces and live chess not working). It all seems to have started just a few days ago for me. Created another thread where I expand more on my experience. It'd be great if more members could jive in to confirm similar experiences, so that the staff takes a serious look at it.

Yes, the website is broken. There seem to be multiple different versions of chess.com and it depends on the version you get to see. You can clear the cookies to get a new try, but I did not get any working site since yesterday.

There are different style sheets for every version, some look absolutely broken. Sometimes even the login is broken. Never you get a working chess board.

The browser (dev consle) shows the following errors:

SyntaxError: missing ) after argument list dojochess.v2016042701.js:31:131221
SyntaxError: illegal character LiveChessBase.v2016042701.js:59:340
ReferenceError: z00642 is not defined LiveChessAdvanced.v2016042701.js:1255:1
ReferenceError: dojo is not defined simple:1604:1

So, the javascript code on the website is broken which is a problem of chess.com, not of its users.

People with problems should at least include browser,  browser version, and OS in their posts.

Plenty of people are not having issues so it is possible something specific about your setup is actually the cause. Have you tried disabling browser plugins?

And there are only 2 versions. v2 is the main production one and v3 is the newer version working its way towards release.

This is part of their new Anti-Communist code.  Looks like it's working.

I usually use mozilla firefox . But at the moment microsoft Edge is working fine  i can use v3 with it

I had a weird issue a few months back with Firefox where the profile was causing problems. Started with a fresh profile and the problems went away.

Melayia

I've tried it on both of my browsers and it works fine on both google chrome and internet explorer.

Melayia

have you tried refreshing the page or reseting your browser? Is your internet connection working ok? Other than that, I'm no computer technician. Undecided

You may want to update your Firefox and Chrome browsers to the latest versions. This is what fixed all these issues for me. I was having issues with Firefox 43. On Firefox 46 or 45ESR the website works smoothly.

It appears that all the work being done on upgrading the website to V3 is leaving it with very limited backward compatibility for browsers.

EDIT: I'm on Windows Vista.

I was using firefox (icedragon), which I had set to automatically install updates.  Turns out it wasn't updated, lol.  I was on firefox 42, and just manually updated to 45.  The website was still broken, so I cleared the cache.  Now it works!

So if you are using firefox and the site is broken, try manually updating to latest version, THEN clearing cache.

Thanks for the help

I'm using Seamonkey 2.40 which has the same Gecko rendering engine as Firefox 45. This isn't working with the V3 version at all. I get a blank screen when I try to use tactics trainer. I look at the page source and there is code, but I don't know html so I'm not sure what is wrong with the code. Seamonkey worked two days ago, then since yesterday it doesn't on two different installs, one at home and the other at work, so I don't think it's just the profile. V3 does appear to work with Internet explorer so there's probably some IE specific code in there.

Cache is often the culprit in things like that. Followed by plugins.

It is also possible the added code that broke some browsers. You could always open a ticket, especially if you can recreate the issue on a clean install with no plugins.

I've sometimes had success with switching to private mode when things were acting weird, but haven't had to do that often.

I'm using chromium and Windows10 and the last two days are fine. There was an issue before that when it went to the new version which didn't work, so I relogged in to get the working version.

Makholm

I'm using Firefox 46.0, and the last couple of days the new scheme have not shown me tournament games where its my turn, and been generally uncooperative, the old version of chess.com works just fine

JasonCarnage

Yea, site stopped working for me too when using Firefox.

Normal pages like login and forum look broken and live chess is stuck at "loading" without ever getting there.

I had to switch browsers as even deinstalling my old Firefox and installing the latest version did not fix the problem for me.
