The site uses the Glicko rating system which includes a variable of rating uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. Players with a lot of games in a pool have a low RD value and will see lower changes after games.
New players with fewer games, or players with larger time gaps between games, will have a higher RD and see larger changes until more games are played and that value drops.
