why did they remove the takeback option for bots?

Not when the bot check mates you. You could always redo and learn from your mistake now the game just ends. I hate it. It never used to be that way.

Well, bot games are being added to people's archives. Presumably they are added when the game ends. If you got to the checkmate and the game was recorded AND takebacks were allowed, you could end up hundreds of variations of one game. That might be a problem.
As I understand it, you can take any position from one of those games and set up a new challenge versus a bot. That would work almost the same as a takeback. (although it would take a little more work to set up )
