The fun has gone.
why is Chess.com giving so easy puzzles?
Hi all,
Thanks for your patience and understanding. We recognize the concerns that have been raised and truly apologize for the friction this situation has caused.

This process of rolling out major updates is totally screwed up.
- Introduce a new broken/incomplete system for puzzles without inform the members.
- Weeks later, introducing a new setting “very hard” to “fix” the new problem. A setting members say does not fix the issue according to various topics in the forum. Still no official statement. Edit: The very hard setting was introduced at the same time, but there still seems to be problem with it according to comments.
- 3-4 weeks after introducing the new broken puzzle system there is a an official statement that says in the coming future we will fix the new problems.
Bonkers. This is certainly not the way to roll out things.
Don’t roll out broken new projects because of a deadline, fix the problems first. When it is ready for release, then you do the rollout.
This is also another example how chess.com totally lack communication skill. Such big updates regarding puzzles should ofc been communicated to the members on day 1.

The site occasionally will try options in a subset of members to get information and feedback from members seeing the update. The use of the new difficulty setting and ratings was rolled out at the same time to everyone else,.
There's a new Difficulty setting. You should change to Hard or Extra Hard.
The setting can only be changed in the website currently but impacts puzzle selection on the apps as well.
No, it still serves very basic puzzles even at "Extra hard". I used to enjoy diving into puzzles every once in a while. Now, I find every puzzle is a simple two-move tactic at best. I guess I'll have to find a better site to do puzzles on.
Maybe chess.com should concentrate less on fancy highly paid tournaments for top players and more on the common players who are the source of income for the company.

See the post by @Richard above. It gives additional context
That’s why I don’t get this rollout of the new puzzle system. It seems like Cc introduced a half finished puzzle system. And then the difficulty setting is not working as expected. There are paying customers who bought subscriptions due to the unlimited puzzles and other features like reviews. I wouldn’t be too happy with it if I had pay for it.

Hi Richard
I have a number of points...
1. It is crazy to suddenly be rated 4400, but never get a puzzle rated much over 2200. What happened to the higher rated puzzles? Can anyone see these any more?
2. I do a lot of puzzles, and I notice that since the changes went live, not only am I getting ridiculously easy puzzles, I am also getting the same puzzles I have previously solved coming back around, in the same order. Unfortunately the site doesn't allow me to go back and find when I solved them before, but i assure you I can remember. I'm not sure If you can get that data, but If you are testing this thing, it might be worth doing a search of my completed puzzles to see if and when a puzzles ID appears multiple times. I suspect that something is repeating when it shouldn't.
3. This is a more general point which has probably been made already, but needs to be said. Why are you allowing users to choose a difficulty at all? I can set my puzzles to easy, get 5 points per correct answer and pump my rating to 10,000, Hell i could probably do it in an afternoon. Whatever thought process went into this is completely ridiculous. All challenge and sense of accomplishment has been removed in pursuit of what? What is the improvement meant to be? I really don't see what the plan is, please explain.

There's active work to fully roll out the remainder of changes including showing the current puzzle ratings in the UI and to
- Provide a more meaningful rating which correlates more closely to player’s Blitz and Rapid ratings.
In addition, there's some discussion to change the algorithm some on Extra Hard
@marinkatomb the site has always had the possibility of getting previously solved puzzles, sometimes in the same session

Yes but only the last 30 or so puzzles. I cannot go back and review every puzzle I have ever solved..

I mean that a puzzle solved can randomly show up again in the same session or a later session. It doesn't matter when you previously completed it. I've had a lot of repeated puzzles over the years and sometimes in my longer sessions I can see the same puzzle more than twice.

What is the point in me correctly solving the same puzzle multiple times? I can understand repeating failed puzzles, that is useful. Repeating correct puzzles doesn't make sense to me though.

Reinforcing patterns is good. I don't think previous puzzles are actively being tracked in the algorithm, at least not over many recent ones, so it will just serve random ones that otherwise meet the algorithm requirements. That can mean repeats

It has basically become puzzle rush. If I want to repeat patterns, I c an do that. I do puzzles to be challenged, not to mindlessly repeat basic patterns over and over again.
2500 rated at puzzles, changed settings to extra hard, getting one move puzzles rated around 1700-1800. Not fun or beneficial. Tried sending an email, but the address doesn't work anymore. Please chess.com fix this.
