How is it that in 5 minute live chess my time sometimes goes up rather than down?

I thought the gamet was a reducing time one.

If it's a 5 minute game, with a 2 or more 'second', {every}, 'move' increment ; That, would be why.

- Invaribly, expressed, as a '5/ 2', '5/ 3', etc., time-control ; Or, 't/c', for short.
