Bizzare live chess story

So I just played a 3 minute blitz game and something very strange happened to me again, as its not the first time this happens... Now I don't want to come to any conclusions about this too fast, but the thing is that I was beating this guy on time by about 40 seconds and he had like 20 seconds left, and I was sure he was done when his clock went below 10 seconds, but then somehow his clock went  back to 13.6 seconds and he stayed that way for the rest of the game (30 seconds) while my clock kept on ticking. Sadly and frustratingly, this caused me to lose Cry

But seriosly, is it possible he was cheating, or is it just lag compensation or some kind of bug? I know live chess is still in beta, but the whole game we were both at green-level latency without any lag. Until this problem with the timer, of course. Wierd. Anyone else ever have something like this?

Probably a combination of lag compensation when you saw the time jump and his use of pre-moves when his time ceased to count down.

It is specifically for this reason that I play 15 min or more on the net.  Lag can ruin a blitz or lightning (bullet) game quick-style. Well, that and I am in a stage where improvement is very important, so I enjoy the longer games.  :)

This same problem has happened to me several times. This would possibly be one of few advantages to a Live Chess 2.0

But the lag is corrected for, so how can it ruin the game?

I don't play a lot of live anymore, but it was people walking away from lost positions to let the clock count down instead of resigning that drove me in the opposite direction -- not playing games longer than 10 minutes.

That's why I use the old "Live Chess" instead of "Play".
