Many people (not just any specific nationality) abort games because they don't want to play the opening. This has happened to my many times after I opened with 1.Nf3, 1.f4, or even 1.d4. Apparantly those opponents were only psychologically prepared to play against 1.e4.
Even when they move first, some of my opponents abort the game after I reply with something unusual like 1...f5 or 1...d6.
There should be some kind of penalty for aborting games like that (no one gets to abort a game in an OTB tournament).
